Adnoc cuts naphtha exports to Asia

LONDON — Naphtha exports from Abu Dhabi to Asia are being cut by 50,000 tonnes because of a problem at an oil and gas field in the emirate, a regional oil broker said yesterday.

The broker said the problem that developed earlier this week had resulted in a likely 15-day suspension in production of pentane-plus, a light naphtha stream, from the field.

“Adnoc exports about 100,000 tonnes, or about four cargoes of this naphtha, every month, so they’re losing a couple of cargoes,” he said.

Traders said Adnoc’s naphtha is normally destined for Japan, a major Asian consumer of the product, which Japan uses as feedstock in its massive petrochemicals manufacturing sector.
