Have you ever wanted the perfect winged eyeliner, but found the look just outside your grasp? Well, the first step to getting started is having the right tools. Here are some products to pick up (and these are for women, don't get mixed up with Father's Day products!):
. Gel or liquid liner - I love black Up's liquid liner which is available at Sephora. It's super pigmented, has a very precise applicator, and really lasts awhile.
. Eyeshadow primer - Urban Decay Eye Primer Potion is my all-time favourite.
. Pale eyeshadow
. Mascara
Once you have your products in place, here's how you can go about it:
1. Start by covering the lid with a small amount of eyeshadow primer. Then, using an eye shadow brush, apply an even layer of the pale eyeshadow over the entire lid. This will ensure that your liner stays put all day long.
2. Sweep the liner in a solid line above your upper lashes, following the natural lash line. Start small and build it up, getting slightly thicker at the outer edge.
3. Use a brown eye pencil to lightly mark where the wing will be. This ensures you get them even before applying the liquid liner. You can extend the wing as long as you like, in a slightly upward motion - I tend to follow the direction of my outer lashes.
4. Finally, add lashings of mascara.
If you want a modern twist to this classic look, try adding a colour using the same technique just above the line you've drawn. I'm loving the white liner trend at the moment, but you can use any colour you want. Kiko Milano has an amazing range of coloured liquid liners which have great colour pay-off!
Meanwhile, here are more tips to keep in mind to rock the winged eyeliner look:
. A girl's best friend when it comes to this look is a cotton bud. The regular shape will do but you can even get pointed ones. This means, if you make a mistake, you can easily correct it.
. If you are using a liquid liner, shake the product before using it. This mixes the pigment up and ensures the product is not separated.
. Look down at a mirror while applying your liner.
. Practice makes perfect! If you want to attempt this look on a night out and you're not quite comfortable yet, practise beforehand and figure out exactly what works for you.
. Try applying your mascara before you apply your liner. This can give a surprisingly good indication of where to draw your wings!
. If you feel like a sharp line is too harsh for you, try smudging it a little bit by using a small amount of dark eyeshadow over the line. This will give a softer, yet still defined look.
. If using a gel liner, apply it with a small liner brush. MAC's 209 is my favourite.
