The Airbus A380 is arguably one of the largest, most luxurious passenger aircraft to ever grace the skies. Dubai's Emirates Airlines operates one of the largest A380 fleets around the world and also flies the Boeing 777 - thereby being the only airline to use both.
Let's focus on the A380. It's a technological marvel in its own right, but like every vehicle, it also gets dirtied up during its 'round-the-clock' flights to its destinations. But we never really see a dirty A380. So, it begs the question: How can they clean such a massive aircraft? In this short video, Emirates - the 'best airline in the world' as voted by flyers - shows you how exactly they get their A380 fleet look spic-and-span.
In the video, shared to mark World Environment Day, Emirates takes curious flyers and viewers on a behind-the-scenes trip of tidying up A380s. They present the 'drywash' technique. The video details what drywash is? Essentially, it involves using a special cleaning agent on the aircraft and wiping it off.
They also shared some of the amazing benefits they get from using drywash. The airline saves 11.7 million litres of water per year with this method. Other than that, it keeps the plane shiny for a longer time (and a lot of us LOVE shiny planes).
Cleaning an A380 involves a 15-man crew who perform the task for 12 hours. It's also worth noting that a single aircraft only needs three drywashes every year. How's that about energy as well as water conservation?
