Electric cars are too expensive to own in the UAE, but now residents can drive an environmentally clean car for merely Dh120 a day.

The UAE-based online car rental firm selfdrive.ae has introduced all electric cars for Dh5 an hour with a minimum billing cycle of 24 hours -- which comes to around Dh120 -- and a range of 250km per day.

UAE residents, travellers, expat and corporates can reserve the car for a day, week or for a monthly lease.

This car can be recharged free of cost at more than 90 Dubai Electricity and Water Authority charging stations across the emirate.

Soham Shah, founder and director Pinewoods Technology Services Dubai, the holding company of selfdrive.ae, said the firm has collaborated with the Road and Transport Authority (RTA) and Dewa to incentivise electric cars by allowing free charging across all car charging stations, free parking and Salik tag.

UAE is an extremely mature market with high potential for on demand electric car rentals.

Pinewoods Service Corporation is India's leading corporate car leasing and car rental company which kick started international operations with 2,000 cars across the UAE.

The company has built its own proprietary platform called Smart Mass Mobility Technology (SMMT). The platform allows users to reserve self-drive car on demand through web and app, and choose from 75 different car models across 25 car brands, which also includes luxury brands across locations.
