It was a break from the regular household chores for hundreds of Dubai women who dedicated their Friday to friendship, unity and women power by taking part in an all-women road trip from Dubai to Fujairah.
About 500 women gathered at Le Meridien Garhoud to start the trip titled 'She Drives' to celebrate women power in the month of March with both the International Women's Day and Mother's Day falling within this month.
At the starting point, the participants registered themselves and had a hearty breakfast while their cars were branded with the She Drive stickers. The convoy of about 150 vehicles then started the journey at 9.30am and was escorted by the police, civil defence and emergency departments.
Friends Naseema and Benetha couldn't wait to start their maiden girls' trip to Fujairah. "We have never travelled like this without family and that's one reason we are nervous and excited at the same time. Usually we are busy with our children or taking care of the house but today even our husbands supported us to go out and enjoy with our girlfriends. We feel like we are in college again," said an excited Naseema.
The trip concluded at the Le Meridien Al Aqah Beach Resort, Fujairah, where a host of activities were planned for the participants.
The real fun kicked off after lunch, from 2.30pm to 3.45pm, with games and interactions in company of a special radio presenter from Channel 4, providing participant's the opportunity to win a variety of prizes.
Luigi Rubinacci, director of AW Rostamani Strategic Ventures, organisers of the event, said: "This first of its kind campaign is a celebration of women in the UAE and is an opportunity for a community to come together and embark on an adventure they usually might not partake in.
A group of three women - Tabu, Megha and Sameena - said the trip was absolutely refreshing. "We haven't taken an all ladies road trip in quite a while now so we cannot express our excitement about this. Good food, great friends and loads of prizes really made us feel special." The event was concluded at 5pm.
