Islamabad: Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif has said that his responsibilities had increased after the people reposed confidence in the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz in the local bodies (LB) elections.
Addressing a gathering of farmers and teachers in Jhang in Punjab, Sharif said his government had devoted all energies and resources to serve the common man and alleviate their lot and resolve the problems faced by people. "We are trying to deliver on our promises to the people under a policy and not just to win their votes," he said.
The prime minister performed the ground breaking related to construction of the Jhang-Chiniot segment of motorway as part of mega Lahore-Karachi motorway. He also distributed cheques among a select group of farmers owning up to 12 -1/2 acres of land as compensation for the losses suffered by them due to steep fall in international and domestic prices of sugarcane and cotton.
Sharif said the remarkable success of PML-N in the first two phase of local government elections in Punjab was expression of confidence and trust by the people in the commitment and capacity of the government to pursue policies benefiting the common man.
He said tremendous development activities are underway in building infrastructure, a network of motorways, extending help to small farmers and launching energy projects to eliminate power shortage by 2018. The farming community would be extended interest-free credit for installing solar tube wells.
The prime minister lashed out at Imran Khan's PTI without naming it, for putting hurdles in the implementation of Kissan Package meant for farmers. The Rs341 billion package was the biggest ever package for farmers in country's history.
