Dubai resident Ashamol Sathyan has been living in the UAE for the last 10 years. Being a homemaker with no kids, she has plenty of free time at hand to indulge in what she loves most - art and craft. "I started with art and craft as a hobby. Slowly it became a part of my life. Every day I try to experiment and create new things. Most of my products are made out of paper," she says in an interview with Khaleej Times.
Asha notes that paper can be used in several versatile ways. "The end product is colourful jewellery - earrings and necklaces. Quilling is an art that beginners can try. It is cost-effective and easy to learn."
When you see products that Asha has created, you would not guess that it is all made from just paper. Wall hangings centred on the family, jewellery boxes, dolls, flowers, miniature pianos, greeting cards and personalised gifts. "You can make beads with patterned paper. To make beads in different shapes, you just have to vary the size and shape of the paper triangles that you cut out," notes Asha.
She uses paper, cardboard, paint, adhesive and decorative materials to make these products. Paper quilling, paper punch craft, decoupage (an art form that entails pasting paper that is cut out to an object and then covering it with several coats of varnish or lacquer), stock flowers, paper flowers, paper jewellery, quilled jewellery, gift items, greeting cards, tags, bottle art and more are easy for this self-taught homemaker.
When quizzed about her favourite item, she says, "I don't have a favourite item because I really enjoy making each and every one. My family supports me in following my passion," she concludes. Interested? Call Asha 056-5665865
