Now, unmarried expatriates and workers in Oman will have to follow stringent rules regarding housing and living in residential areas. According to reports in Times of Oman, the Muscat Municipality has given three days to single occupants of houses in various residential areas to register with the authorities. Those failing to do so are likely to face eviction, under new residential norms. The move implies that expats and workers in Oman will now have to take prior municipality permission if they wish to reside in residential areas.
The municipality issued a statement saying, "Muscat's municipality is in the process of implementing a judicial ruling against the home owners that house single residents in residential neighbourhoods, without prior permission of the municipality."
Earlier this year, several properties in a residential area were raided and many single expats were found to be living in violation of local laws. Furthermore, according to reports, Muscat Municipality is planning to build special housing complexes for single expats in Bausher, Amerat and Mabella.
