A technologically nescient mobile thief got so fed up trying to operate a Rs45,000 (Dh2,243 approx) stolen smartphone that he decided to return it to its owner.
The incident took place in West Bengal, India, when a man left his smartphone at a sweet shop from where it was later stolen. The man lodged a police complaint after his phone was found to be switched off continuously.
Police said that on investigating, it appeared that the smartphone was stolen by a 22-year-old man who was present at the sweet shop in East Burdwan, West Bengal.
Meanwhile, a few days later the man again tried to make a call on his stolen phone and to his surprise the thief answered the call. According to reports in Hindustan Times, the thief told the man that he wanted to return his phone as he was not able to operate it.
"I was surprised when the man took the call and said he wanted to return my phone. I collected the cell phone the same day from his residence with police help. He even expressed remorse for his act," the owner of the phone said.
As the mobile thief returned the phone to the complainant, he requested police to not arrest him.
