The event was inaugurated by Shaikh Nahyan bin Mubarak Al Nahyan, Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research.

The children-oriented film, titled Al Hudhud (the peacock), is about the story of the peacock of King Solomon and intended to instill a number of positive values such as courage, dedication and commitment in the young people.

"The story of the 10-minute movie is neatly built on the conflict between Al Hudhud, the protagonist, and the bird, the antagonist," Husni Mujahid, supervisor of the work said. Through the workshop, "the participating 20-member team of students learned the differences between still photographs and animated pictures by using the Flash computer programme," he added.

The students also participated in designing the pictures of the different animals, setting the music score and positioning it with the right scenes and writing the screenplay and dialogue in formal Arabic.

Mujahid, who is also a cartoonist at the Arabic weekly children magazine, Majid, has pointed out that students have also used other computer programmes to produce the film like Macromedia Flash Mix Professional 2004, Stream Line and Adobe Primer.

Shaikh Nahyan inaugurated the new activities complex in the women campus that features a number of cafeterias, offices for the scientific societies, cinema hall, one lab, a clinic, Internet cafŽ and electronic games.

Some of Al Ain-based Arab and Asian communities have participated in the event by showcasing their traditions, customs and traditional foods and dances. Shaikh Nahyan has also presented awards to some of university employees and students who proved an outstanding performance in the different academic and extra-curricular activities throughout the previous academic year.

The event also included contest in painting, handcrafts and Holy Quran recitation.
