EPC organiser, the Abu Dhabi Authority for Culture and Heritage (ADACH), recently announced that it had reached an agreement for a long term collaboration with Magnum’s Paris office which represents most of the world’s best photographers.

One of the founding fathers of Magnum and the man responsible for turning photo journalism into an art, Henri Cartier-Bresson, will be the leitmotif at the EPC this year.

The main theme of the competition, ‘Street Photography’ will be dedicated to the French photographer.

The EPC event will also have a photo exhibition by Cartier-Bresson, from his pre-World War II Parisian years. The exhibition will take place from March 10 to April 10 in Abu Dhabi, the same time as the EPC award winning exhibition.

Also as a result of the collaboration with Magnum, EPC will organise from February 23-27, a workshop held by yet another world renowned photographer and Magnum member, Steve McCurry, best known for his iconic portrait of the ‘Afghan girl’.

Apart from the main ‘Street Photography’ theme, EPC’s photo categories also include Landscape, nature, portrait and people, photo journalism, sports and action.

The top Diamond Eye Award has on offer Dh40,000, while the rest of the categories will each have three awards — Dh15,000, Dh12,000 and Dh10,000.

In addition, the judging committee will award six prizes, each worth Dh10,000.

A special category in the competition this year will dedicated to the Camel Beauty show, organised by ADACH this December.

Entries from this year’s work are invited, although pieces from 2007 will also be accepted.

The deadline for entries is December 31.
