Islamabad: Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif said on Sunday that Turkmenistan-Afghanistan-Pakistan-India (TAPI) gas pipeline project will prove a game changer for countries of the region.
"It will not only help resolve energy shortage but also bring peace and promote trade in the region," he observed while talking to Pakistani media persons accompanying him on way back from Turkmenistan where participated in the ground-breaking ceremony of the project.
The trans-regional energy project, which will bring gas from Turkmenistan, is being dubbed as a major initiative for bringing peace and enhancing connectivity in the region.
Sharif said Pakistan attached great importance to the $10 billion TAPI project. "This project has the potential to spur growth to change the economic landscape," he added.
"After completion of this project, Pakistan will get 1325 MMCFD supply of natural gas which will help overcome the energy deficit," he said.
"By December 2019, the pipeline will be completed. It will have a capacity of 33 billion cubic metres (bcm)," Turkmen President Gurbanguly Berdymukhamedov said at the ceremony.
