The new tailgating radars in Abu Dhabi will catch and fine both vehicles in front and at the back — if they are on the fast lane, the Abu Dhabi Police have announced.
The smart system, which became operational on January 15, had been programmed to detect the two cars violating rules: The tailgaters who failed to leave a safe distance between vehicles, and the one in front that failed to give way to a speeding car on the leftmost lane.

Both vehicles will be fined Dh400, but tailgaters will get four traffic points as well.
Brigadier Salem Al Dhaheri, deputy director of the traffic and patrols department, reminded motorists that the left lane is designated for motorists who would want to drive faster than others on the road.
Those who are driving at a normal speed should stay in the right lane, he said in a local media report.
This is why failing to give way to vehicles in the fast lane is a violation punishable by a Dh400 fine.
