This was the common refrain of participants at a discussion organised by the Juvenile Awareness and Welfare Association of Dubai, as part of its campaign titled, ‘No to sub-standard satellite channels’. The campaign aims at involving the different generations —students, teachers, parents — in a meaningful debate and dialogue about the harmful consequences of the TV programmes that encourage violence and promiscuity, as well as the physical impact on children as a result of watching TV for long hours.
On April 29, the discussion was held at Al Abraq Elementary School in UAQ. The school hosted female students from schools in the region, who were accompanied by their parents, teachers and social workers.
Obaid Al Quod, Director of the UAQ Education Zone, and Lt. Col. Dr. Jasim Khalil Mirza, Head of the Security Awareness Department at Dubai Police, also took part in the discussions.
