Students from KG1 to Grade 12 participated in the event showcasing their activities and games and items made from waste.
Students highlighted the importance of reducing, reusing and recycling by exhibiting their own masterpieces, handmade from recycled materials. Students also put up a fashion show donning dresses made from items that would have been discarded.
The event is an action project on climate change under Environment Agency- Abu Dhabi’s (EAD) Sustainable Schools Initiative Programme for schools in the Abu Dhabi emirate.

In cooperation with EAD, Masdar, Gulf Electronics (Philips), Emirates Wildlife Society-World Wide Fund for Nature and D Club, ADIS environmental club ‘Prakriti’ organised the fair.
Gayatri Raghwa, environment education specialist at the EAD, said, expert speakers, an avian ecologist, a GIS specialist and a marine biologist, imparted were present to provide a wider picture of the subject
EAD also organised interactive games to engage visitors in the environmental challenges faced by the UAE.
Masdar’s officials spoke with the students and parents about Masdar City and the nature of their work, while parents and students walked away with energy efficient compact cluorescent light (CFL) bulbs from the Phillips stall at the fair.
As CFL’s saves up to 80 per cent energy as compared to traditional bulbs.
The Sustainable Schools Initiative was launched in September 2009 by EAD, with sponsorship from British Petroleum. This whole-school initiative capacity builds school communities to address their own environmental impact and help them roll out sustained environmental education and awareness activities.
Amrita Menon a 12th standard student of ADIS and president of Prakriti said, for the past six years ADIS has raised awareness among students about climate change and sustainable efforts conducting events, lectures, drawings and competitions focusing on environments.
