Speaking to Khaleej Times, Humaid Al Mualla, Director of the Health and Environment Department, said that the municipality is keen on ensuring that all food outlets and manufacturers are following health safety conditions and regulations.
A team has been formed to conduct inspection operations before Eid Al Adha to focus on the meat outlets and butchers and educated them about the importance of maintaining hygienic conditions and ways of proper slaughtering. Al Mualla explained that the health department issued 970 violations and warnings to errant outlets in the emirate during the first six months of this year.
The food laboratory analysed 4485 food samples collected form various outlets and found 46 samples unfit for human consumption. He added that twelve advanced equipments were installed in its laboratory to analyse milk and milk products. He also said that it was the first time in the UAE that equipment was being used to analyse biodegradable plastic bags.
He stressed that the municipality would not tolerate those found flouting the health regulations and that erring businesses could face closure in case of serious violation. Al Mualla said that the municipality received 1,052 complaints about food violation and all were addressed in time.
