The success of Tollywood star Mahesh Babu's Srimanthudu at the box office in the two Telugu States has infused great enthusiasm among the political leadership in Telangana who believe that the just-launched 'Gram Jyoti' programme by the Telangana Rashtra Samithi government would meet with equal success in the coming times.
Mahesh Babu's flick, which hit the screens about 10 days ago and has kept the box office tills ringing, deals with rural development and social responsibility, much like the objectives of the ambitious Rs250 billion "Gram Jyoti" programme which seeks to empower and develop villages in the state through mass participation. The rural development scheme was inaugurated by Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao on Monday at Gangadevipalli village in Warangal district.
Impressed by the success of the movie, KCR's son and Information Technology and Panchayat Raj Minister K T Rama Rao tweeted: "On the eve of Gram Jyoti, Srimanthudu is a fab movie to catch: focus on rural development & social responsibility. Great job@urstrulyMahesh"
The Telugu star responded to KTR's compliment tweeting: "Thank you, sir... humbled."
Meanwhile, KCR, inaugurating the scheme said Gangadevipally was a shining example of what people can do if only they had the will to solve their problems on their own rather than waiting for officialdom to descend. "You have shown that determination and mass participation can overcome all hurdles. I would like other villages in Telangana to emulate your efforts which has made Gangadevipally not only well-known in India but also in international fora," the chief minister said.
Announcing a Rs100 million government grant on the spot, KCR said he would leave it to the wisdom of the villagers and the elders on how to utilize the funds. "I certainly don't government officials to advise you on how to use the funds since you are all well aware of your needs and capable of implementing it," he said, adding that proper planning, self-governance and a yearning for self-reliance were key to the success of the government scheme.
"Gram Jyoti" is a flagship program of the TRS government aimed at rural development and empowerment through mass participation. To make the scheme effective, the chief minister has asked all his cabinet colleagues, party legislators, District Collectors and other district level public representatives to adopt villages in their respective areas to ensure rapid development. While ministers have been asked to adopt at least five villages, party legislators should adopt one village in each mandal from their constituency.
