Although fasting and a vastly different schedule can make exercise a bit tough during the Holy Month of Ramadan, there's no reason that athletically-inclined UAE residents can't continue to be competitive and strive to push their own limits. With this in mind, why not tie up your trainers and participate in the Ramadan Night Run?
The event - which has been held every year since 2012 - takes place in Dubai on July 9th. It is accessible for everyone, from newbie runners to seasoned athletes, and includes three, five and 10-kilometer options starting at the Dubai Autodrome.
All finishers of the Ramadan Night Run are rewarded at the finish line with a bespoke event medal - tailor-made for the event. Additionally, the top three finishers in their respective age groups are given trophies, along with a prize raffle in which participants that are present have the opportunity to win spot prizes.
The race begins at 10:15 PM. The race costs Dh90, Dh120 or Dh140 for the three, five and 10 kilometre runs, respectively. Each registered participant will be issued with a unique race number and timing chip for their registered race, which must be worn during the race at all times and be visible to race officials. Race numbers and timing chips can be collected for the Dubai race at Caffe Nero at the Palm Jumeirah Golden Mile - close to Spinneys - or on the day of the race at Dubai Autodrome from 9 PM onwards.

If you're planning to participate in this run - or any others - make sure to follow a few key guidelines. Hydrate well - just because it's dark doesn't mean it isn't hot, especially in the humid night air of Dubai.
Also, when you break the fast, be careful with what you eat. Being too full will make for a very uncomfortable run, as will sugary desert sweets. The discomfort caused by overeating will have the same effect on your run as eating meals full of junk food.
Lastly, make sure to get enough sleep.
With these simple steps, however, there is no reason you shouldn't be able to run the race, have fun, and possibly end the evening as a champion!
