Residents in Ras Al Khaimah felt a five-magnitude earthquake on the Richter scale on Sunday afternoon.
The tremors which originated in Iran were felt in northern parts of the UAE, according to an official statement from the National Centre of Meteorology and Seismology (NCMS). "The earthquake hit Qeshm island to the south of Iran."
The tremors were recorded at a depth of 42km, the NCMS added. "The shocks were reported at 2.54pm."
Residents in Ras Al Khaimah, mainly in Al Rams and Julphar areas, took to the social media and said they have felt the tremor.
Mohammed Ibrahim, an Emirati national, told Khaleej Times that he felt minor shocks at Al Rams area. "I did feel the tremors while driving in Al Rams area."
Though the tremors were mostly felt in the northern parts of the country, residents in Sharjah and Dubai also reported the same to Khaleej Times.
Sherif Al Wakeel, an Egyptian resident based in Sharjah, said he was walking home when he felt dizzy. "I first thought there was something wrong with me, but later discovered that these were tremors of an earthquake in Iran."
