Emirati culture and identity was celebrated with pride across the Capital as part of the 48th UAE National Day. Major landmarks, educational institutions, malls, public places held a range of events throughout the day, which was capped off with airshow and fireworks.
Qasr Al Watan, the Presidential Palace, highlighted the Emirati heritage with a series of captivating proceedings. Parade led by guards with national flag on horses, cyclists and Abu Dhabi Police Music Band gave a majestic start to the celebrations. Visitors were entertained with traditional performances by Ayala dancers, Diba Al Harbiah group and song written for the palace by Emirati star Ahmad Al Mansoori.
Thousands of residents were wowed by the Al Fursan aerobatic airshow at the Corniche. Major buildings including the Adnoc headquarters were lit in national colours and messages. Nation Towers showcased light laser painting pop-up.
Malls were filled with holiday crowd and all public spaces were seen fully occupied.
Thousands were regaled by Lebanese singer Joe Koueik at Al Wahda Mall while Arabic drummers, Khaleeji dances were held at the Khalidiya Mall. Clowns, face painting and games for kids were held at the Madinat Zayed Shopping Centre.
The Yas Marina Circuit held an extra day of Abu Dhabi Grand Prix to mark National Day. It was free entry and people enjoyed events at Heritage Village, Fan Zone, including live entertainment and street performances. At 9pm, Yas Island's sky was brightened by a glittering display of fireworks.
The New York University Abu Dhabi held performances, art, and cultural activities for students, faculty, staff and family members. Activities included Emirati crafts demonstration and workshop, Emirati trivia questions, a cultural scavenger hunt, henna corner, Arabic Ramsa challenge - a test for international students learning the language.
Events were also held at Al Jahili Fort in Al Ain. The Department of Culture and Tourism - Abu Dhabi organised educational workshops, traditional sports falconry and Saluki races, live cooking of traditional food, acts including poetry sessions, music, martial arts and police dog show.
