The Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) has called up on all NoL cards holders to return their unused cards for recycling them. The RTA said it will soon launch its first recycling programme where residents are encouraged to return their smart cards.
Khalid Awadi, Director of the Automatic Collection System at RTA, said customers can visit any Metro station ticket office to process the refunds. “The cards will be verified and customers will get the refund instantly,” he said.
The RTA said this is a green initiative by the agency and the returned cards could be used again for fabrication. “Residents should do their bit and it is their responsibility to contribute to the betterment of the society.”
PETF, a degradable environment-friendly substance, is used to make the Nol card. The RTA has the technology for recycling them. The Card Service Centre will break down the card and make them fit for use again. “If the electronic chip works, we can recycle,” Luluah Al Asmakh, Deputy Director of Automated Fare Collection Department, said.
