The Emirates Airlines International Festival of Literature (EAIFL) is taking place in Dubai from February 26 to March 1, 2009 at Dubai Festival City.
The workshop is free of cost and open to the public.
Organised by the British Council, UK based professional poet Valerie Bloom and storyteller Alec Williams will run workshops on ‘literature in education’ and ‘writing and performing for young people’, designed specifically for writers, performers and teachers. They will also perform for the public during the Festival. The programme has been designed as part of the British Council’s ‘Voices’ project, which works across music, literature and theatre to stimulate dialogue and understanding between artists in the UK and the Middle East and reaches out to young audiences.
The creative workshop is designed for local emerging as well as experienced poets and storytellers, and for teachers of literature and English language, in the UAE.
The aim is to support and encourage the development of creative skills, both in the context of creative writing and performing, as well as in the classroom where these skills, in the hands of teachers, can help to stimulate and inspire students of literature and language. In addition, the two artists will stage a free public performance at Dubai Festival City, on Thursday February 26.
Interested candidates should contact the British Council at www.britishcouncil. org/me.
Workshop places are limited and the deadline for registration is 21 February. Certificates of Attendance are awarded to participants.
