“Schools should make every effort to protect kids and such drastic measures are needed to solve problems. I feel this is part of a short-term solution and the management should make an effort to get more female support staff and provide them with training in the future. As parents, we are worried when such cases are brought to light,” says Rajesh Chawla, who sends his 6-year-old daughter to a GEMS school.

Another parent, Usha Sharma, says: “My daughter has been travelling on the same school bus for many years now and we have the same driver from a long time. Although, we trust the staff, we never know their intentions. This is certainly a good decision and I hope there are not such instances in the future.”

Fauzia Raza, a former teacher, says: “Being a teacher myself, I cannot tell you how happy I am to know that the school management has decided to act in favour of the parents and the community. The school management should now host a parent meeting to provide some sort of training and emotional support from the school to gain the trust back.”

Mother of the victim thanks police, media and other parents

It is a great step because I am not only fighting for my child; I am fighting for all parents and for the society.

Whether it is GEMS or any school, we should feel happy. I think if they had taken this step much before, what has happened to my child would not have happened. Our main concern is every child’s protection.

We are thankful to everyone — the police, the parents, the consulate and the media who all have been supporting us. We have to fight together for our children’s safety.
