The flag-hoisting ceremony in the capital, conducted by Ambassador Jamil Ahmed Khan, was attended by a large number of community members who had come dressed in traditional attire.

He also spoke about the achievements Pakistan has made under the current, democratically elected government headed by President Asif Ali Zardari and Prime Minister, Yousuf Raza Gilani.
“Under the wise leadership, our exports have grown 44 per cent while remittances from the Pakistani community members from around the world, including the UAE, have gone up 20 per cent,” said Khan.
The ambassador said Pakistan was today self-sufficient in food and other essential commodities with the surplus being exported. The messages of the Pakistani President and Prime Minister were read out on the occasion.
Later in the evening, the ambassador hosted a reception to mark the day. The function was attended by community members, diplomats, UAE officials and distinguished guests.

At the Pakistan Consulate in Dubai, Consul-General Tariq Iqbal Soomro unfurled the national flag in the presence of a large gathering of community members.
The messages of the President and the Prime Minister of Pakistan were read out. The Consul-General, while addressing the gathering, said: “As we know, various global challenges are confronted by Pakistan and the Muslim nation that demand better understanding and cooperation. It also requires their firm and united stand on the issues by keeping in view the Islamic principles and the unanimity of views on various international issues.” He advised Pakistanis in the UAE to project their country’s positive image through their deeds. “Every Pakistani abroad is the ambassador of the country and it is important that we unite and act responsibly, as our acts directly affect the image of our country,” he said.
He also expressed his gratitude to the President, His Highness Shaikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan and the entire leadership of the UAE for their support and deep affection for Pakistan and its people. A traditional Pakistani breakfast including halwa, puri, channa and lassi was provided by Dubai-based Ravi Restaurant.
