Over 20,000 surgeries a year at Dohms hospitals

DUBAI — The Department of Health and Medical Services (Dohms) hospitals perform more than 20,000 operations annually with an average of 1,800 operations monthly which include around 55 per cent major surgeries, said a senior health official yesterday.

While inaugurating the three-day Dubai International Anaesthesia and Intensive Care Conference and Exhibition that kicked off at the Crowne Plaza Hotel yesterday, Director-General of Dohms, Qadhi Saeed Al Murooshid, said that all these operations were being performed at Rashid Hospital, Dubai Hospital and Al Wasl Hospital.

“We have 45 consultants and specialists working at the Anaesthesia Departments and all of them are highly qualified and trained, they ensure that they adopt best clinical quality care practices,” he added.

Dubai Anaesthesia 2007 is being hosted in Dubai for the second time and is being supported by Dohms, the UAE Ministry of Health and Charite University, Berlin, and is organised by Index Conferences and Exhibitions.

Al Murooshid said, “The conference will present an opportunity to the anaesthesia practitioner fraternity to get together and learn about innovative developments in pain management, anaesthesia, critical care and emergency medicine.”

The conference and exhibition is hosting speakers and practitioners from Germany, Sweden, France, the Netherlands, Belgium, the United Kingdom, Saudi Arabia, Pakistan, Iran and Egypt in addition to Consultants, Anaesthesiologists from Dohms who will confer about the progress and latest innovations within this highly specialised medical field.

Dr Mansoor Nadhari, Conference Chairman, thanked the scientific committee for producing a comprehensive programme covering a wide range of topics.

Scientific sessions also commenced yesterday and shall continue today and tomorrow.
