Islamabad: Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif Wednesday launched at Zhob (Balochistan) construction of the western route of the China Pakistan Economic Corridor ( CPEC) while promising to lay a network of roads and motorways in Balochistan province.
Acknowledging that Balochistan province has remained most under-developed part of the country despite its strategic location and vast mineral and other natural resources, Sharif said the progress and development of Balochistan would remain on top of his government priorities.
The premier performed the ground-breaking ceremony of two key projects - upgradation of the Mughal Kot section of the Dera Ismail Khan-Qila Saifullah Highway (N-50) and the Qilla Saifullah-Waigam Rud Road section of the Multan-Dera Ghazi Khan-Qilla Saifullah Highway (N-70).
The Zhob-Mughal Kot Section is part of the western route of the CPEC which starts from Burhan on the Peshawar-Islamabad motorway (M-1), and after winding through D.I. Khan, Zhob, Quetta, Surab and Hoshab, ends at Gwadar.
He said the Gwadar port is being developed at top speed with most modern facilities to become economic hub of the entire region extending from the Gulf to Central Asia on one direction and Japan and South East Asia on the other. A state-of-the-art international airport is under construction at Gwadar. All these projects are billed to be completed by the end of 2017, he added.
