The Imperial College London Diabetes Centre (ICLDC) — the UAE's largest multi-disciplinary diabetes facility — was inaugurated by Shaikh Suroor bin Mohammed Al Nahyan in the presence of Shaikh Sultan bin Tahnoun Al Nahyan, Chairman of the Abu Dhabi Tourism Authority.
The ICLDC, owned by Mubadala Development, was created following the strategic partnership between Mubadala Development and the Imperial College, London, one of the leading universities in the world which has the largest medical school in Western Europe.
Khaldoon Khalifa Al Mubarak, Managing Director & CEO of Mubadala Development and ICLDC Chairman, said, "Statistics show that each of us in the UAE is likely to have a close relative or friend living with diabetes. The opening of the ICLD Centre is a first and significant step in reversing the impact of diabetes in the UAE."
He added that the centre was also another step in the realisation of the vision of His Highness Shaikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan, President of the UAE, to provide the people of the UAE with the best healthcare facilities in the world.
Following the opening ceremony, leading healthcare professionals, government officials, doctors and business associates were shown how the ICDL Centre combined all facets of treatment and research under one roof.
The ICLDC building resembles the geometrical structure of an insulin molecule.
The premier medical centre boasts of a huge team of specialised staff dedicated to meeting patients' needs at every level possible.
The inaugural programme was also attended by Mohammad Ahmed al Bawardi, Secretary-General of the Executive Council, Undersecretary of the Crown Prince Court, Dr Ahmed Al Mazroui, Director-General of the General Healthcare Authority for the Emirate of Abu Dhabi (GAHS), and a host of representatives from the Executive Council, the General Headquarters of the Armed Forces, the General Headquarters of Public Healthcare, Injazat, Al Dar and official representatives from the British Embassy.
