Over 30 UAE artists of different nationalities present what love, peace and tolerance mean to them in 42 artworks that are currently on display in Dubai.
Titled 'Colours of Love', the tolerance and diversity art exhibition is organised by Art4you Gallery and was recently inaugurated by Yasser Al Gergawi, director of programmes and partnership at the Ministry of Tolerance.
Explaining the concept of the exhibition, artist Jesno Jackson, founder of the Art4You gallery community, said: "Art is the best way to convey the message of diversity and tolerance. The artists have exhibited 42 art pieces that all display how love and tolerance can take different forms. They have used their skills in a bid to create a fairer society where everyone is treated the same and has the same opportunities, without prejudices based on physical or social characteristics."
Lauding the exhibition and the idea behind it, Al Gergawi said: "Seeing so many artists who have different religions, beliefs and backgrounds come together in one platform is truly a display of tolerance. Their works and this exhibition are a wonderful way to show the harmony of cultures in the UAE, especially here in Dubai."
Indian artist Renu Shivam showed peace and love through white doves.
"I have made two paintings that formed a series. Doves are symbols of peace and love and I have used white and blue that are the colours of purity, understanding and hope," Shivam said.
Emirati artist Ahmed Rukni Al Awadhi painted a picture of Pope Francis, head of the Catholic Church, along with an Islamic scholar. He was inspired to work on this piece after the visit of the pope to the UAE.
"Dubai is an epitome of tolerance where so many people of different backgrounds are living together and the latest visit of Pope Francis, for me, was a perfect example of tolerance. To see an Islamic scholar share a friendly moment with a Christian leader is a beautiful depiction of love, peace and tolerance," he said.
Russian artist Margarita Kunizheva - whose painting titled Royal Garden showed women of different nationalities sitting in a beautiful garden - said:
"The idea behind my painting is that if you put only roses in a garden, it will be beautiful but not exotic. But if you add more varieties of flowers, such as tulips, orchids, then it will add to its beauty. This brings in my tolerance angle that in the UAE, the different people add beauty and colour to this country.
The exhibition is being held at Studio Seven Art gallery in Dubai and it will run until the end of the month.
