Federal authority launches service where individuals residing outside the country can access the authority's smart application on their mobile phones
Mobile film video made with mobile phone is the new entrant in the line of 11 prestigious categories, including digital photography, animation and film-making.
Shooftv.com general manager Khadeeja Al Marzooqi said the new category would showcase the innovative narrative techniques and production methods made possible by mobile phones.
"Our initiative comes out of our keenness to help Ibda'a recognise this new generation of pioneering artists. The restrictions placed on mobile phone video makers, from the size of the image to the possible length of takes, represent exciting new possibilities," she said.
Since its initiation in 2001 by His Highness Shaikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice-President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, the Ibda'a Awards invite undergraduate media students to enter their work in a range of formats.
The competition, that concludes on October 9, 2008, will be followed by a showcasing of outstanding submissions in November, with winners walking away with attractive cash prizes, internships and coveted equipment.
