The cameras have been installed in police patrol vehicles and vehicles of undercover agents who have started touring the emirate since Sunday monitoring various roads round the clock.
The cameras have the ability to record eight types of traffic violations, including speeding, not keeping safe distance, ignoring lane discipline, reckless driving, using mobile phones while driving, road shoulder violation, not using indicators while changing lanes and parking vehicles in non-designated places.
Lt-Gen Khamis Mattar Al Mazina, Deputy Commander-in-Chief of the Dubai Police, who visited the Traffic Department yesterday urged the personnel to intensify the campaigns to rein in arrogant drivers. He reviewed the mobile camera system and the recording of the movement of reckless drivers by undercover agents.
He called on the traffic police officials to tour all roads in the emirate and be very strict with those who violate the traffic laws, with a focus on risky violations.
Lt-Gen Al Mazina also reviewed the investigation procedure carried out by the traffic police at accident sites and writing the police report as per the standardised model initiated by Lt-Gen Dhahi Khalfan Tamim, Commander-in-Chief of the Dubai Police. The report should include what had really happened on the scene, supported by photographic evidence, which could help determine the person who caused the accident.
