Iran earthquake sparks tremors in Sharjah

ABU DHABI — Mild tremors were felt in Sharjah and other Northern Emirates of the country on Monday night following a strong earthquake of 6.5 magnitude on Richter scale jolted South of Iran. But no damage of property or any other losses were reported.

According to the National Centre of Meteorology and Seismology in the Capital, Sharjah residents living in high-rise buildings felt tremors at 10.42pm (UAE time) on Monday. National Seismological Centre of the UAE registered the jolt of 6.5 magnitudes in Kerman province South of Iran, which is 420km far from Ras Al Khaimah.

At least seven people were killed in the earthquake in Iran, damaging buildings in outlying mountainous areas. Aftershocks of the quake with tremors meauring up to 5.7 magnitude and at a depth of around 6km were recorded, the NCMS said.
