According to diplomatic sources, the Indian Consulate in Dubai is under tremendous pressure from New Delhi and from Karanataka Chief Minister Bharam Singh to secure Bidapa's release.

The flamboyant designer is credited with the discovery of several models, including supermodel Ugwala Raut, now the face of Chanel.

Dipika Govind, a Bangalore-based designer who knows Bidipa well, expressed shock over the incident.

"Its very common in the Indian fashion industry to use drugs, but I am quite shocked about Bidipa's arrest,” Dipika said.
