Indian children up to five years of age are now exempted from giving biometrics to passport issuing authorities.
According to the Times of Oman, the central government made the announcement in parliament on Wednesday.
"The ministry has exempted infants/minor children up to the age of five years from giving biometrics (10 fingerprints) to the passport issuing authority for processing their applications related to passport services," union minister of state for External Affairs V K Singh said in a written statement.
The statement also added that despite the biometric exemption, the children will still be required to be physically present at the relevant passport authority for their photos to be taken for the printing of the passport.
