The festival is being organised for the second consecutive year to commemorate the World Health Day, being observed today across the globe.
Dr Zabalawi said he was happy to see the enthusiasm among students in organising such a health awareness programme in cooperation with several federal government and local authorities.
"The health festival is timely, considering the scare of Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome (SARS) that has invaded Far Eastern Asian countries and gradual spreading to other neighbouring countries."
He expressed hope that the health festival week would help generate awareness on this disease in particular, among people in this country, and the necessary precauations to be taken to protect themselves.
The festival which suppplements health-related programmes studied by students at the UoS is also important for the student's families who will get first hand information on various diseases and the care and precautions necessary to prevent or control them, Dr Zabalawi pointed out.
