HCT body okays new courses

The meeting was chaired by Shaikh Nahyan bin Mubarak Al Nahyan, Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research.

Dr Sulaiman Al Jassim, Director of Community Relations and Manpower Development, told the Press that the governing council also studied a report concerning student enrolment for the year 2004-2005. The report showed that the projected number of admitted students is 3,805 (377 boys and 2428 girls) where as the projected number of turned away students is 1,724 out of which 349 are males and 1375 females.

The council also approved the move of Fujairah Men's College and Ras Al Khaimah Men's College to Fujairah and Ras Al Khaimah Technical Secondary Schools, and eight new programmes including Higher Diploma in Paramedical Studies, Bachelor of Education (B.Ed.) in English Language Training in Schools, Bachelor of Education (B.Ed.) Educational Technology, Diploma in Web Development, Higher Diploma in Web Development, Higher Diploma in Electrical Engineering Technology, Higher Diploma in Electronics Engineering Technology and Diploma in Municipal Services Engineering Technology.

The Higher Diploma in Paramedical Studies is sponsored by the Dubai Police Headquarters (DPHQ). Entrants to the programme will be selected jointly by DPHQ and HCT and graduates will meet the requirements for employment by DPHQ. The Bachelor of Education in English Language Teaching in Schools programme is a four-year degree designed to prepare excellent and innovative English teachers for UAE schools.

Bachelor of Education (B.Ed.) in Educational technology programme is a four-year degree designed to prepare qualified Information technology teachers for the UAE schools. The diploma in Web Development provides students with the technical skills needed to be certified as Web Masters while the Higher Diploma in Web Development will give students an understanding of worldwide electronic communication and the Internet.

The Higher Diploma in Electrical Engineering Technology programme prepares students to perform effectively as engineering Technologists in the UAE electrical power industry. Graduates specialise in electrical power technology and are able to take up employment with electrical utilities, petrochemical industry, electrical maintenance organisations, etc.
