GCC Housing Ministers conclude 10th meet in Abu Dhabi

ABU DHAI - The ministers of housing, and ministers tasked with housing, of members of the Cooperation Council of the Arab States of the Gulf (GCC), on Sunday called for decisions to provide proper housing units for their nationals and ensure their stability and welfare.

The ministers made the call in Abu Dhabi during their 10th meeting which was chaired by Sheikh Hamdan Bin Mubarak Al-Nahyan, the UAE’s Minister of Public Works.

In his opening remarks, Sheikh Hamdan noted that housing is a vital sector that has economic, social and development effects in the regional countries which now are experiencing rapid growth and urban development. This, he said, entails responsibilities and challenges which require coordination and consultation to lay the sound foundations for the development of the housing sector in the GCC region.

The agenda of today’s meeting discussed housing issues that are in line with the aspirations of the peoples and the leaders of GCC countries and would promote ties and integration and joint GCC action for a prosperous future, Sheikh Hamdan further noted.

The ministers gave directives to adopt a decision by the GCC Housing Ministerial Council on the unified bylaws of ministerial committees and tasked the GCC Secretariat General to follow up on the process with members states.

The responsibilities of liaison officers and housing databases and definitions and charged the technical team of preparing architecture and construction databases, quality standards, performance appraisal tools for housing projects, were also approved by the ministers today.

They also approved plans to prepare a unified housing guide to the categorization of consultants and licensing contractors.

The possibility of conducting training programs on housing and related laws was also discussed at the meeting.
