Fujairah plans housing units on city outskirts

The Fujairah Municipality has announced new housing projects on the outskirts of the emirate as part of its efforts to reducing density of population and traffic congestion in Fujairah.
According to Mohammed Saif Al Afkham, director-general of Fujairah Municipality, the plan to build residential compounds and towns on the outskirts of the city will run up to 2030.
He said: "The Department of Public Works and Agriculture have started ground levelling of mountainous areas to link them with areas inside the city."
Another ambitious project in the emirate, Dh1.4million Mohammed bin Zayed residential city comprising 1,100 residential units, schools, mosques, clinics, parks, shopping malls, and a community centre, has already begun, he added.
His Highness Shaikh Hamad bin Mohammed Al Sharqi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Fujairah, had issued a decree ordering construction of the Shaikh Mohammed bin Zayed City near Fujairah City on an area of 2.2 square kilometres.
Salem Mohammed Al Maksah, director of Public Works and Agriculture Department said the department had completed 90 per cent of levelling and stretching of land for the Mohammed bin Zayed City project. The remaining work will be completed by the end of next month.
