The 32-year-old Iraqi man denied using any narcotic substances. He told Presiding Judge Fahmi Mounir Fahmi that a Qatari friend used his smoking pipe which might have been left with traces of drugs.
He also said in court that he received a call from someone who said that he wanted to do some workouts. However, that someone turned to be a Criminal Investigation Department officer (CID). “At first, he told me that I am driving a car without a licence, which was untrue as my car had already been seized,” the Iraqi said in court.
The CID officers then arrested him allegedly for drug use. The instructor was arrested on September 1 at Al Wasl Sports Club. “We at the Anti-Narcotics Department were informed that he possessed and used drugs,” an Emirati lieutenant said during prosecution investigation. The lieutenant said that they got a warrant issued from the Public Prosecution and arrested the defendant at the club around midnight. According to the Criminal Lab report, the defendant’s urine sample had traces of drugs. However, no drugs were found with him or at his house. Judge Fahmi will pronounce the verdict in the first week of December.— mary@khaleejtimes.com
