Those who have been fined in absentia can approach the department to avail themselves of the instalment scheme, Harib said, and added that motorists whose traffic fines exceed Dh1,000 can approach the Traffic Department to subscribe to the instalment scheme.
He said that the motorists are expected to pay Dh30 initially and the remaining amount can be paid through post-dated cheques.
Captain Harib stated that nationals and expatriates with residence visas could apply for the scheme, but tourists or visitors who have committed violations while driving hired vehicles would have to pay the total amount.
Meanwhile, Driving licences of 40 heavy vehicle drivers have been revoked by the General Department of Traffic of Dubai Police for jumping the red signal.
The department also revoked licences of 24 light vehicle drivers for exceeding the limit of 24 black points in a year.
Lt-Col. Saif Muhair Al Mazrouie said that 1,118 driving licences were cancelled over the last eight months for exceeding the 24 black points limit.
