A 'digital replica' of Dubai that details its landmarks in 2D and 3D maps will help in planning and developing the emirate. 'Dubai Here' maps all assets, landmarks and facilities ranging from master plans to interior details of buildings. It also covers other landmarks such as roads, trees, bridges, green spaces, utility lines and details of residential units.

The Dubai Municipality's Geographic Information Systems (GIS) Centre launched the electronic system that provides access to geospatial data and maps of the emirate.

Accessible on a web browser or smart device, 'Dubai Here' displays maps from a comprehensive geospatial database which all parties can contribute to and update. The e-system provides access to details of housing units, service units and networks; and information on economic activity, the environment, health and population.

Dawoud Al Hajri, Director-General of the Dubai Municipality, said geospatial data and maps are tools essential for decision making.

The GIS Centre recently launched 'GeoDubai', which offers access to a comprehensive and unified base map.

Meanwhile, the Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) and Dubai Municipality have signed an agreement to develop a comprehensive, unified and updated base map for Dubai. The map will serve as an effective tool for planning, designing and managing development projects.

Under the agreement, the range of services includes providing and exchanging maps and geographic data, integrating geospatial systems, developing smart applications, providing technical support and advisory services and establishing electronic connectivity.
