Dubai’s Zabeel Park glittered with its palm trees and bushes all lit up and accompanied by breathtaking fireworks and different traditional art performances on the occasion of the fifth edition of Dubai Mass Wedding held on Monday.

The event that saw the participation of 50 couples, was organised by the Dubai Municipality (DM) and was held under the patronage of Shaikh Hamdan bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Deputy Ruler of Dubai, UAE Minister of Finance and Chairman of the DM.

The couples’ wedding ceremony was also attended by their family members and colleagues.

Benefiting from the initiative were employees of four Dubai government departments — the Dubai Municipality, the Dubai Health Authority, the Department of Islamic Affairs and Charitable Activities and the Dubai Electricity and Water Authority. A number of dignitaries and officials of the government departments were also present on the occasion.

The event that saw performance of songs by a traditional troupe, folklore dances, military band as well as laser shows and fireworks, was also attended by Hussain Nasser Lootah, the Director-General of the municipality.

Lootah said the initiative has aided hundreds of Emiratis since its inception and as a unique social initiative of the UAE, it has been helping young Emiratis build their family with financial stability, covering the costs of wedding ceremony and providing a happy interactive social occasion.

The newlywed couples extended their sincere gratitude to Shaikh Hamdan for his help and support to the young Emiratis helping to fulfill their dream of starting a family life without getting burdened with huge debts that prevent many from getting married or delay it to an uncertain period.

The organisation of the joint mass wedding is in line with the vision of the late Shaikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan and the directives of the UAE President, His Highness Shaikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan, and His Highness Shaikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice-President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, with the aim of avoiding extravagance that burdens families.
