Ajman Police Director-General Colonel Ali Alwan said the campaign would target warehouses which store large quantities of firecrackers illegally, and small groceries and vendors who sell crackers.
The police department is also conducting an awareness programme to remind parents and youngsters about the dangers linked to the use of firecrackers.
Col. Alwan pointed out that smuggling of firecrackers could not be checked without the cooperation of the supervision section at the seaports, municipal authorities, parents and society as a whole.
“Parents are responsible for the safety of their children,” he pointed out.
While issuing a stern warning to owners of some small shops who sell such items for profit regardless of the dangers they posed, he urged the public, in general, and parents, in particular, to cooperate with the police in this regard.
“The police in coordination with the municipality had earlier fined and warned several small outlets and shops against selling firecrackers,” he said.
