Blood donation drive in Sharjah
SHARJAH - The Department of Blood Transfusion Services at the UAE Ministry of Health on Wednesday organised a successful blood collection drive at the Emirates Transport in Sharjah. Around 35 staff members and visitors to the establishment donated blood at the Ministry of Health mobile blood bank. This is the third such campaign organised with the Emirates Transport this year.
These blood collection drives are organised throughout the year as part of the blood transfusion department’s annual campaign to provide adequate supplies of whole blood and blood components for major surgical procedures, organ transplants, open heart surgeries. They are also aimed at arranging regular transfusions of blood for children with the genetic blood disorder, Thalassemia.
The department of blood transfusion services also supplies all private and government hospitals in the country with whole blood and blood products such as plasma, packed red blood cells and platelets.
