Bid to modernise defence projects

ABU DHABI - Zayed University (ZU)'s Smart Square Centre (SSC) and the Air Forces and Aviation Defence have signed a technological agreement to boost the efforts to adhere to the latest developments and advancements in the field of information technology.

The pact, which was singed under the agies of Lieutenant General Shaikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Chief of Staff of the UAE Armed Forces, Deputy Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi, aims to enhance employment efficiency and avail of the expertise and technological capabilities of the SSC.

"This agreement was concluded as per the instructions of Lt-Gen Shaikh Mohammed with the objective of developing and modernising the programmes of the Armed Forces, as well as training national cadres on the recent approaches in the field of modern technologies, according to Dr Hanif Hassan Al Qassimi, ZU's Vice-President.

He said that the agreement would provide training courses, administrative and technological consultations, chalk out programmes to secure employment efficiency and disseminate modern technological systems in consistency with the concepts of the e-government policy, which is adopted by the country.

The first phase of the agreement includes developing the electronic archives system of the air forces and introducing a new research system in their databases, in addition to the provision of other maintenance and technical services, said Dr Qassimi.

He noted that Shaikh Nahyan bin Mubarak Al Nahyan, Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research, President of Zayed University, is very keen on exploiting the modern techniques embodied in the SSC programmes, in training fresh graduates and serving vital national institutions and departments.

Major-General Khalid bin Abdullah Mubarak Al Buainein, Chief of the Air Defence, said under the agreement, air defence projects would greatly benefit from modern technological systems the SSC programmes incorporate.

The SSC has been providing different quality technological services for federal government departments and institutions and training programmes to enhance the employment capabilities of working national cadres.
