The year 2018 saw a wide range of manufacturers launching their flagship devices, each packed to the brim with some of the best hardware and software. However, with Huawei announcing the latest HUAWEI Mate 20 Series, other flagship devices like the Samsung Note 9 and the Apple iPhone XS Max might have met their match. While these phones are great smartphones by themselves, the HUAWEI Mate 20 Series does stand a step ahead, thanks to the latest in hardware and the best in software.
Mighty camera
Packed with a new Leica triple camera setup, the HUAWEI Mate 20 series brings in a mix of a 40-megapixel wide angle sensor, a 20-megapixel ultrawide sensor and an 8-megapixel telephoto sensor. This camera setup is then complemented by an on-board AI, that sets up each shot to look perfect. This unique relationship of hardware and software helps even amateur photographers take images on a professional level, easily making it the best camera on a smartphone.
While the Samsung Note 9 and the Apple iPhone XS Max each pack powerful cameras in their own right, both manufacturers have opted for a dual lens setup. The additional third lens on the HUAWEI Mate 20 Series and its AI is what takes its camera capabilities to the next level. When put up against both of its competitions, the HUAWEI Mate 20 Series proved to take photos in more detail, with better color correction and even superior performance in low light situations.
Security is key
Huawei takes security seriously, and has incorporated multiple biometrical login options into the HUAWEI Mate 20 series.
While the Samsung and Apple both introduced their own signature login authentications that became synonymous with the brand, Huawei went down another road. Samsung bought in the iris scanning technology in its previous Note device, which carried forward to the new Note 9, and it works quite well. Apple on the other hand introduced the FaceID, which scanned the user's face, and was eventually carried forward to future devices.
Housing the most unique authentication system, the HUAWEI Mate 20 Series shines with its in-screen fingerprint. Hidden behind the stunning 6.39-inch OLED display, this sensor provides a different and secure way to unlock, while still maintaining the aesthetic appeal of the phone. However, if fingerprint sensors are not your style, then you can also opt for a face unlock method, which is done through a 3D Depth Sensing Camera.
Formidable hardware
The Samsung Note 9 and Apple iPhone XS Max both pack powerful hardware under the hood, however, the HUAWEI Mate 20 Series brings in a new level of competition by combining AI and hardware to create the smoothest performance without compromising on battery.
Under the hood, the HUAWEI Mate 20 Series packs the brand-new Kirin 980 chipset, one of the most powerful chipsets today. Thanks to software optimization and well-constructed hardware, the HUAWEI Mate 20 is capable of delivering performance at the levels that have not been seen before.
While this might raise concerns about the battery drain, users of the HUAWEI Mate 20 Series need not worry. Firstly it's because of the optimization of the hardware and software, but more importantly, the HUAWEI Mate 20 Series packs a large 4,200 mAh battery. While the battery by itself is quite capable, it is also supported by Huawei's SuperCharge, that can charge the device up to 70 percent in just 30 minutes, as well as fast wireless charging, which can give up to 30 percent charge in 30 minutes. Both Samsung Note 9 and Apple iPhone XS Max also pack large batteries of 4,000 mAh and 3,174 mAh respectively. However, both do suffer in charge time, and do not support fast wireless charging.
Here is quick rundown of what each of the three phones pack:
