With a lot of amnesty seekers thronging the consulate these days, the rate was reduced for the sake of the people, they said.
The consulate officials also stated that they were working during the weekends to ensure that the people could get travel permits quickly and go back to Bangladesh without any delay.
A Rais Hasan, the Vice Consul, said, “The people have requested us to reduce the rate of the travel permits. Moreover the other consulates too were giving the permits at a lower price. So we decided to do the same for the sake of the people. We believe that this would help them in a big way,” he said.
The official stated that everyday there were more than 100 people coming down seeking travel permits and filling up application forms. “ We are also working during the holidays and the weekend to ensure that work is done quickly. The consulate is listening to the different queries of the people and helping them accordingly,” he added.
Many Bangladesh nationals, however, complained that they were not getting proper information at the consulate. One of them, who requested anonymity, claimed, “ Most of the people have to just wait. The officials don’t talk with the people in a proper way. Little or no information is provided most of the time.”
The consulate officials refuted the accusation. “This is wrong. The steps we have taken proves that we are helping the people. Our officials always try to help them out in any kind of situation,” they stressed.
