Artists of various nationalities and background, from amateur hobbyists to serious professionals will be exhibiting at the show as part of the DSS Surprises.
One of the participants, Chhabi Sahai, started painting at the age of 10, and will be showing her portraits, landscapes and still life in oils, water, pastels and charcoal. Carrie Wareham practises encaustic art - a modern development of an ancient art form featured on Egyptian mummies. She uses an iron to create her encaustic pictures from colour-pigmented beeswax, colour pigment and other materials. Inspired by Dubai's richness, colour and opulence and futuristic growth, she also uses other media such as gold leaf, chains, Swarovski crystal and coins.
Marian Lishman has been painting for eight years, starting with watercolours, then pastels and oils. She has been exploring other media in her paintings including beads, mirrors, gold and silver leaf and sand.
Lebanese artist Marlene Nasra studied chemistry, and worked in research labs before starting to paint - mostly landscapes and still life in oils. She has exhibited in Beirut and Dubai.
Stephanie Neville is inspired by Africa and other antipodean cultural and tribal art influences. She uses linear and other rhythmic applications in her work, experimenting with practices of graphic art. Direct application of warm colours, strong brush strokes and textures extend movement in her art.
Well-known Lebanese artist Souheil Madi who paints murals with 3D effects will also be here and painting live everyday on mirrors. Madi's murals depict typical oriental folkloric scenes and Islamic themes, famous Arabic portraits as well as more modern characters chosen from children's popular stories, using oils on canvas for conventional paintings and acrylics for murals. Russian artist, writer, poet and psychologist Alisa Evsyukova is exhibiting her works at Arts Oasis.
Peter Lawrence started painting about 25 years ago and is inspired by varied landscapes, cultural diversity and the work of other artists and photographers. He trained with watercolour artists in Europe and experimented with styles and techniques.
An Indian national, 26-year-old James Joseph, will be displaying some mini sculptures of familiar cartoon characters like Wallace and Gromit, Power Puff Girls and Dexter's Laboratory.
