The bridge linking Al Barsha and Al Soufoh passing over the Shaikh Zayed Road — the first phase of the project — has already been opened to traffic.
The project also includes a tunnel parallel to Shaikh Zayed Road linking Umm Suqeim with Knowledge Village.
The Dh208-million project, launched in May 2006, is expected to be completed by the end of this month, Engineer Maitha Bin Adai, CEO of Traffic and Roads Agency of the RTA, said in a Press release yesterday.
The project extends to 11km and includes roads, a tunnel and a double-lane bridge linking Al Barsha with Al Soufoh in addition to traffic signals, lights and utility lines.
Bin Adai said the project is of vital importance to Dubai’s infrastructure. She said the rapid pace of work reflects RTA’s commitment to bringing “full-scale solutions” to manage the traffic situation in Dubai.
She added that Salik is a key component of a general plan to manage Dubai’s traffic situation and thus enhance the convenience of the residents and visitors.
RTA has installed direction signs to alternative roads for drivers who wish to divert form the Salik Toll Gates at Al Garhoud and Al Barsha on Shaikh Zayed Road.
