Abu Dhabi municipality issues fines on seven street vendors

Abu Dhabi - The campaign was carried out in collaboration with strategic partners, including the Abu dhabi Police in Seih Shuaib, Ajban and the trucks route areas.

The Abu Dhabi City Municipality, during a campaign to curb unlicensed street vendors in Al Shahama and other neighbouring areas, has fined seven peddlers of Dh1,000 each.
The campaign was carried out in collaboration with strategic partners, including the Abu dhabi Police in Seih Shuaib, Ajban and the trucks route areas. It echoes the keenness of the municipality on the health and safety of community members, while underlining the need to protect consumers from the risks of materials sold by street vendors and makeshift markets. The municipality warned unlicensed vendors of spot checks and advised them to obtain licences.
The campaign spotted makeshift markets in Ajban, the truck route and Seih Shuaib, selling foodstuffs, fruits and vegetables, fodder and snacks.
This spot check comes as part of a large-scale awareness campaign launched by the municipality earlier this month through social media and on streets, entitled 'Street Vending Threatens Your Life,' aimed at educating community members against hawkers who constitute a serious threat to their health.
The municipality called on all community members to comply with the applicable rules regulating practicing of professions and occupations, particularly when it comes to activities that need to be licensed from the competent authorities.
