The municipality confiscated the medicines and locked up the warehouses to launch a probe into the malpractice.
The municipality had withdrawn the spoilt veterinary medicines that have already been distributed in the market without permission from the Ajman Food and Environment Central Laboratory (FECL)
A tip off about the products had prompted the health section to form a team headed by Salim Obaid Al Mamri, Head of the health Section of the Municipality, to launch an investigation.
The official said that the intensified search, follow up and investigation resulted in seizing these warehouses which run by a group of people of Asian origin who were distributing these medicines which could endanger the health of animals such as cows, goat and sheep which people depend on for milk and meat. Saif Salim Al Shamsi, Deputy Director-General Ajman Municipality, said that the case of violators will be referred to public persecution and they will face tough punishment.
He added that the municipality is concerned about the safety of food and medicines whether its for humans or animals.
“Health protection is one of the municipality’s top priorities, as the sale and production of stale or spoilt food or medicines could pose dangerous threats to the health of the public and cause consumers their lives,” he stressed.
The Food and Environment Central laboratory in coordination with Health Section of the Municipality is currently working hard to monitor the food and medicine production as well as conducting random and regular inspections in pharmacies and food outlets, to ensure food safety for the public.
